AJ Lock "Direct Committal" Service Explained

The Unattended Direct Committal Service - £999.00 (Including Disbursements)

Our Direct Committal Service provides our most cost-effective funeral without compromising care and dignity to your loved one. This service is ideal for funerals where no mourners can attend or if you would prefer a memorial service.

The cost of a funeral service is typically broken down into two parts: funeral director fees and third-party costs (sometimes referred to as disbursements).

Our Professional Service

The caring and knowledgeable staff at AJ Lock Caring Funerals are available to you and your family 24 hours a day. We will make all of the necessary arrangements and pay all third-party fees on your behalf. We will prepare, collect and distribute all of the documents required for the funeral to legally proceed. We will remain available after the funeral for any aftercare, advice and guidance you need.

Our staff members are available by appointment 24 hours a day (including evenings and weekends). The appointment can take place either here at our funeral home or in the comfort of your own home.

Care of The Person Who Has Passed Away

We will bring your loved one into our care within an hour (once the doctor's paperwork has been completed) 24 hours a day. The person who has passed away will be treated with the utmost care, respect and dignity throughout. They will always rest in peace within a specific area set aside within our funeral home to ensure an appropriate environment.

We will wash, prepare and dress your loved one according to your wishes. We will dress them in their own clothes if provided or we can provide a funeral gown (available in various colours). We will follow your instructions regarding presentation of your loved one; our staff is able to style hair and apply makeup where appropriate. We will take great care of any personal effects.

Visits at Our Private Chapel of Rest

Family and friends are welcome to visit their loved one at our on-site Private Chapel of Rest. We do not charge for chapel visits and there are no restrictions on time or duration of a visit. However, during our busier times, we may have to allocate a time slot.

Our Hearse

We will provide our own traditional chauffeur driven hearse to convey the person who has passed away to the place of committal. Please note: no hearse is included in the Direct Service; your loved one will be transported to the crematorium via our private ambulance.

The Coffin

We have a wide range of coffins available.

The Day of the Service

The coffin will be transported in our hearse to the local crematorium or cemetery and will be accompanied by the funeral director. When at the place of committal, the coffin will be taken from the hearse by the appropriate number of bearers and will be brought into the chapel by the funeral director. Music chosen by you will be played on entry to the chapel or church. The bearers and funeral director will bow in respect to your loved one and then leave the chapel. The service as arranged with you will then proceed. Please note: if a Direct Service is selected, no music will be played at the chapel.

Care of The Cremated Remains (Where Applicable)

The crematorium will provide a simple container for the cremated remains. Cremated remains can be scattered at the crematorium Garden of Rest, can be collected by a nominated member of the family, or can be collected by us on your behalf and held on our premises until you have decided where you would like your loved one’s final resting place to be.

External Costs

We have no control over the external costs and they are subject to change.
