More Information

 Pre-Planning
Pre-planning gives you the peace of mind of knowing that the arrangements you particularly want will be conducted sensibly in dignified respect to your wishes.

Pre-Paying
Paying for your funeral in advance will save you, your family or your estate a great deal of money. Bought now at today's prices, the funeral director's costs are guaranteed no matter when it is needed or how much the costs of a funeral have risen in the meantime.

Why plan now?
Sharing the intimate details of your preferred funeral service 5, 10 or 15 years ahead of its time can be quite a difficult concept to consider. If you write it down, who will you entrust the paper to? If you tell your partner, sons or daughters, how will they remember and plan your every wish in their time of sadness? Only you can advise sensibly on such individual requirements - burial or cremation? Church? Music? Cars?

Perhaps you have an environmental requirement, such as woodland burial for instance.
Adding the administrative burden of arranging the funeral to a bereaved relative's confused and emotional state may lead to mistakes being made and unnecessary costs being incurred.

Planning and paying for your funeral in advance saves your family the anguish and grief of doing anything other than remembering you.

Why pay now?
The cost of funerals has exceeded normal levels of inflation and this is a theme that is predicted to continue.

If, in 2004, you had put £1920 (then the average cost of a funeral) into a deposit savings account, then you would have seen this grow to about £2177 during the following 12 years.

However, during the same period, the average cost of a funeral has increased dramatically to £3897.

What is certain, with a Funeral Plan, bought now at today's prices or paid for by convenient monthly instalments, the quality of the service provided by the Funeral Director in respect of your planned wishes will not cost your family one penny more - whenever it is ultimately needed.

Your Questions Answered

Why should I pay now?

It'll be years before I need a funeral, so why should I pay now? We'll all need a funeral one day and it's costing more every year, so it makes sense to plan your funeral while you can and fix the cost by paying for it now.

If I decide to purchase my plan over 12-60 monthly instalments, what happens if I die before I have paid them all?

A pre-paid funeral plan is not a savings policy and for its benefits and guarantees to be utilised, it is required to be paid in full. Your next of kin or executors will be required to pay the full outstanding balance prior to the funeral for the plan guarantees and benefits to remain in place. The funeral arrangements will be set in motion in accordance with the plan's specified services. If the plan's outstanding balance cannot be met, the plan will be cancelled, and the remaining funds will be passed back to the plan purchaser or their estate (or in specific instances the funeral director if required) after the cancellation fee has been deducted. If this particular situation occurs, the plan guarantees will lapse and the current day rate for the funeral service will be charged to the family at the time of the funeral.

Can I have my own funeral director?

Unlike some plans, our plan allows you to choose your own funeral director. Alternatively, we can recommend and appoint one on your behalf if you would prefer.

We're thinking about living abroad. Can we still arrange a plan that works out there?

Yes, you can. If you live overseas, then we have a plan specifically for you. Our plan has dual-country coverage, providing for a funeral in the country of residence or the UK. So even if you decide to move back to the UK, you will still be covered.

Am I guaranteed to be accepted?

Yes, you are. There's no age limit, medical tests or good health declarations, unlike some other insurance-based plans.

Are there any extra costs?

The services of the funeral director are guaranteed to be covered — in accordance with the Terms and Conditions. Certain disbursements may require a further payment at the time of the funeral, but we will guarantee any increase to these costs in line with Retail Price Index (RPI).

How do I know the money will be there when it's needed?

The money you've paid for your funeral is held securely in an independently managed Trust. Julius Bar and Quitter Cheviot are currently tasked to manage the long-term growth of the fund, specifically to meet the increasing cost of funeral services.
